Best Coffee Shops in Boone NC

If there’s one thing you need during a trip to the mountains, it’s the perfect cup of coffee. There’s something about finding the perfect coffee shop nook in the mountains that makes you feel at home. Maybe it’s the smell of the beans, the perfectly curated playlists, or the tables full of conversation and studying.
Whether you’re passing through Boone on your way to Linville Land Harbor, visiting Appalachian State University, or planning a trip to this university town, be sure to stop by one of these coffee shops and stay caffeinated.
Espresso News + Low Bar
Tucked away behind a parking lot that runs parallel to King Street is Boone’s favorite coffee hangout spots. This place is two stories of comfortable seating and relaxing ambiance to either catch up with old friends, grade papers, or study for finals. Plus, they are the only coffee shop that play vinyl records and they roast their own coffee beans.
If you’re not in the mood for coffee, Espresso News also offers homemade soups, pastries, treats, and an assortment of beverages.
If you bring your mugs, they’ll offer you a discount on coffee.
Bald Guy Brew
Bald Guy Brewing is a local roasting company that started out with, you guessed it, a bald guy with a dream. It grew into an ethically sourced roasting company, and now has it’s own coffee shop on King Street. It isn’t the quietest and coziest coffee shop in town, but you’ll never complain about your cup of joe at this joint. We’ve heard their chai is amazing. This location is an extension of Strand on King Street, a local bead shop where you can craft your own jewelry.
The Local Lion
Looking for a quick coffee and doughnut fix? Look no further than The Local Lion, located on Blowing Rock Road. Started out by graduates of Appalachian State University, this family owned and operated business has easily become a local favorite since they opened in 2012. No doughnut matches up to The Local Lion and they continually have the friendliest service.
Plus they have a drive-thru window for those stopping in and out of town or running late to class.
Crossroads & Wired Scholar
If you’re a student at Appalachian State University, you’ve more than likely been to these two coffee shops, conveniently located on campus: Crossroads in the Plemmons Student Union and Wired Scholar in the Belk Library. Students love these coffee shops for their study friendly environment, spacious and plentiful tabletops, on-campus location, and the fact they accept student meal plan money. If you’re touring campus, be sure to stop by and try the student favorite, “Turtle”, which is a latte with chocolate, caramel and hazelnut syrup. Next, try the “Grasshopper”.
Not in the mood for coffee?
Try Boone’s local tea shop Noble Kava to switch things up.
