When you think of fall in the High Country, scenic drives on the Blue Ridge Parkway surrounded by crisp, cool weather come to mind. Aside from the beautiful fall foliage, there are several local bakeries, coffee shops, and breweries that offer seasonal fall treats, that make your trip to the mountains extra festive.
Everyone loves a good secret menu item. Espresso News on Howard Street offers its own twist on the infamous Pumpkin Spice Latte—although it isn’t on the menu and only available by special request.
Appalachia Cookie Company
Appalachia Cookie Company rolled out their Pumpkin Spice cookie earlier this year. If you’re in the Boone area, they’ll deliver them right to your door at any late-night hour. Vegan and gluten-free options are available, too.
Stick Boy Bread Company
Stick Boy Bread Company on Hardin Street—right across from Appalachian State—has a set October menu complete with cupcakes, pumpkin cookies, pies, cakes, and cheesecakes. Their seasonal fall breads are only baked on set days of the week, so if you’re craving one, make sure to check this schedule.
Many of the High Country local breweries offer pumpkin-flavored beers, including Southern Tier Pumpking, the Appalachian Mountain Brewery Jack Yo Butternut Porter, and Lost Province Brewing Co.’s Bumpkin’s Pumpkin Ale. These are only available during the fall season, so get to your favorite brewery before it ends!
And if you want to make your own fall treats, there are several pumpkin patches and apple orchards in the area. Check them out here!
