Fall in Love with Seasonal Treats in the High Country

When you think of fall in the High Country, scenic drives on the Blue Ridge Parkway surrounded by crisp, cool weather come to mind. Aside from the beautiful fall foliage, there are several local bakeries, coffee shops, and breweries that offer seasonal fall treats, that make your trip to the mountains extra festive.

Everyone loves a good secret menu item. Espresso News on Howard Street offers its own twist on the infamous Pumpkin Spice Latte—although it isn’t on the menu and only available by special request.

Check out a local favorite  Mountain Grounds NC for their Pumpkin Patch which is a Pumpkin purée blended with nutmeg, cinnamon, & allspice! 🎃🍂

Appalachia Cookie Company

Appalachia Cookie Company rolled out their Pumpkin Spice cookie. If you’re in the Boone area, they’ll deliver them right to your door at any late-night hour. Vegan and gluten-free options are available, too.

Stick Boy Bread Company

Stick Boy Bread Company on Hardin Street—right across from Appalachian State—has a set October menu complete with cupcakes, pumpkin cookies, pies, cakes, and cheesecakes. Their seasonal fall breads are only baked on set days of the week, so if you’re craving one, make sure to check this schedule.

Fall Brews

Many of the High Country local breweries offer pumpkin-flavored/Octoberfest beers, including the Appalachian Mountain Brewery Cornupoia Pumpkin Butternut Squash Porter, and Lost Province Brewing Co.’s The Great Pumpkin Ale and our personal favorite Booneshine Brewerey Dunkelweizen.

These are only available during the fall season, so get to your favorite brewery before it ends! Be aware of current restrictions due to Covid-19.
