A Visitor’s Perspective of Linville Land Harbor

Being born in Wisconsin and recently relocating to Raleigh, I never really had the chance to experience High Country, North Carolina. Through work, I had the opportunity to spend two days in Linville Land Harbor and I jumped at the opportunity, so I hopped in my car and drove west from Raleigh toward the mountainous side of the state.

After about two hours of driving there were mountains in every direction. As I entered Boone, NC, I could tell there was a certain feeling in the air. A completely unique culture far different from anything I’ve ever experienced; a laid-back, comfortable feeling that I’d heard about from my friends who visited the NC mountains before. This was in early April, so there was still a chill in the air and an early morning haze that looked sort of majestic.

After another 20-30 minutes of scenic mountain driving, I made it to Land Harbor. The main entrance was decorated with colorful flowers and did a great job showcasing the lake. Driving through the winding roads, I could tell it was a tight-knit community. The neighbors were welcoming and everyone that I passed on the roads waved or nodded with a smile.

The staff members at the main office were friendly and accommodating, and showed me where I would be staying for the evening, which was a home on a hillside only a minute or two from the golf course.

Land Harbor has shuffleboard, tennis and basketball courts, a beautiful golf course, lakefront beach and swimming pool. And that’s only what I saw over the course of one day. It seems like the perfect place for a second home, weekend home or to spend retirement years. In the summer, you get the warmth (without the blistering heat) and get to enjoy all the activities Land Harbor and the surrounding areas have to offer. Wintertime seems to have its own share fun for people to enjoy.

There are plenty of food options in the High Country, too! I did some research and ended up taking the short drive across the border to Tennessee for a tasty pizza at Smoky Mountain Bakers in Roan Mountain.

It’s starting to feel like summer in the Land Harbor! #highcountry #NorthCarolina #linville #linvillenc

The next day I drove around the area to explore the NC High Country. Blowing Rock, Boone, Grandfather Mountain and Banner Elk are all just a stone’s throw away. All of the surrounding cities and towns have great coffee shops, food options, parks, views, and people. The Blue Ridge Parkway is absolutely breathtaking. Hundreds and hundreds of miles of scenic roads carved into the sides of the Blue Ridge Mountains for our viewing pleasure. It truly is awesome in the true sense of the word.

Linville Land Harbor is a fantastic community nestled into the side of North Carolina’s mountains with fun attractions and activities, great neighbors and amazing views. If you’ve never been, you need to change that. If you want a sneak peek of this community, follow Land Harbor’s Facebook and Instagram page.
